“One must maintain a little bit of summer, even in the middle of winter.” — Henry David Thoreau
Yes, I know winter does not begin till December 21st, but I’m already missing summer and am looking forward to the sun, campfires, barefoot adventures, sounds of crickets, cherry picking, gardening, water fights fully clothed with my boys, muddy shoes and the list goes on and on and on.
This does not mean that I am not excited for Christmas. I am, with much excitement ready to celebrate Christmas and will do so until February 2nd.
It’s more of the weather, really, that I miss. I know there are many activities that are just as enjoyable for winter as there is for summer but I’m a warm weather kind of gal. The cold and I don’t get along too well BUT if it’s going to be cold, I prefer to have snow on the ground. There’s something to having the cold being tolerable when snow is on the ground and I don’t know why. I think it’s subconscious and for me, I find winter depressing as it’s cold, everything is dead and brown. So, maybe with snow being on the ground, it’s pretty and enjoyable to see. Who knows.
Any way, I already miss summer which means this will be a long winter for me and I am so glad I was able to get outside with my camera to capture the bees on my flowers and my son making mud puddles. Which I actually enjoyed because he himself enjoyed. Shoes and clothes can be washed or bought. Childhood memories are made.
As parents we now reiterate our parents and probably our grandparents by saying “time flies by” and “they [children] grow so quickly”. Both statements and many more about being young for such a short time are true. We have to “carpe diem” seize the day and make life long memories..
So, if you are like me and are itching for summer to roll around again, maybe these photos will hold you over until then.
and the beginning of thee end.
