Well, with all this snow and cold weather it makes me think about Christmas. When I think about Christmas I, of course, think about the birth of Baby Jesus but also other things associated with Christmas like Christmas trees, decorations, houses decorated with lights, The Night Before Christmas, Midnight Mass, the children’s stockings, burning incense, good cheer, shopping for presents, snow, making snowmen and snow angels, the movie Elf, Santa and cookies!
I think about a lot at Christmas time and above all what I love and think about the most at Christmas is, memories. I think about our family traditions of visiting my aunt, uncle and cousins and grandmother before we go to midnight mass, the day of baking cookies with my mother and siblings, sneaking bacon off the stove when my mother would make bacon buns, sledding with my siblings and friends, Christmas caroling with family friends, the delicious Christmas dinner with my whole family, grandmothers and friends, making our Christmas list for Santa, etc. . . . the memories are so warming and loving.
When I received a call from my client who wanted Christmas photos but in a unique way I was SO excited to do this request for her. She had asked if I could capture what she and her daughter do most which is baking Christmas cookies. I was beyond thrilled to do this for two reasons. The first because I documented a tradition that she has created for her daughter which will carry on for decades. The second reason is because she didn’t pick up her phone to capture these “sweet” moments. She wanted to be completely invested in the moment, enjoying her daughter’s bubbly personality and create a memory for the both of them that will live on forever.
It was so wonderful to document this day for them. To capture THEIR Christmas photos. Starting traditions to be passed on for decades is so precious and adds value to the family. I was honored to be part of this Lifestyle session. Opening your home to someone, you’re inviting them into your personal life, seeing your intimacy and experiencing your joy while creating new memories.
